In this week’s video, we review the executive order that was released on Monday: “Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence.”

In particular, we focus on the computer power thresholds mentioned in Section 4.2 “Ensuring Safe and Reliable AI” – especially the threshold for floating point operations per second, which appear to describe a supercomputer that’s considerably more powerful that the #1 supercomputer currently known to be in existence, based on the currently-available TOP500 list of most powerful supercomputers in the world.

By the way, it may be that distributed computing might in fact attain and surpass the thresholds mentioned in the executive order. (The TOP500 list refers to non-distributed computer systems.)
